Modeling the world-wide airport network
نویسنده
چکیده
Recently, we have presented the first exhaustive analysis of the world-wide airport network. Two important results of that study are that: (i) the world-wide airport network is a small-world network with power-law decaying degree and betweenness centrality distributions; (ii) the most connected cities (largest degree) are typically not the most central cities (largest betweenness centrality). This second finding is particularly significant because of results demonstrating that nodes with high betweenness tend to play a more important role in keeping networks connected than those with high degree. Here, we investigate if current network models can explain this finding and we show that they cannot. Thus, we propose a new model that explains this behavior in terms of the geo-political constraints that affect the growth of the airport network. We further hypothesize that in other infrastructures, affected by similar geo-political constraints, critical locations might not coincide with highly-connected hubs. Inter-similarity between coupled networks
Recent studies have shown that a system composed from several randomly interdependent networks is extremely vulnerable to random failure. However, real interdependent networks are usually not randomly interdependent, rather a pair of dependent nodes are coupled according to some regularity which we coin inter-similarity. For example, we study a system composed from an interdependent world wide ...

Optimal operation of a country's air transport infrastructure plays a major role in the economic development of nations. Due to the increasing use of air transportation in today's world, flights' boarding times have become a concern for both airlines and airports, thus the importance of knowing beforehand how changes in flights demand parameters and physical airport layout will affect passenger...

متن کاملEstimation of Reference Evapotranspiration Using Artificial Neural Network Models and the Hybrid Wavelet Neural Network
Estimation of evapotranspiration is essential for planning, designing and managing irrigation and drainage schemes, as well as water resources management. In this research, artificial neural networks, neural network wavelet model, multivariate regression and Hargreaves' empirical method were used to estimate reference evapotranspiration in order to determine the best model in terms of efficienc...
متن کاملAn Effective Method for Utility Preserving Social Network Graph Anonymization Based on Mathematical Modeling
In recent years, privacy concerns about social network graph data publishing has increased due to the widespread use of such data for research purposes. This paper addresses the problem of identity disclosure risk of a node assuming that the adversary identifies one of its immediate neighbors in the published data. The related anonymity level of a graph is formulated and a mathematical model is...
